If you are an oyster fan, you will want to pay a visit to the Fish Market in Sydney, Australia.

Though the prices here are not exactly cheap here (you can find them cheaper in less touristy areas), the varieties available are just amazing! Oysters from all parts of Australia can be found here - fresh and ready to eat! See our accompanying AV of how oysters are deshelled.

Oysters have been prized as a delicacy in many parts of the world. Oysters are not only delicious, but it has been said that oysters also contain protein, carbohydrates and lipids. Apparently, some has suggested that oysters are ideal for inclusion in low-cholesterol diets. The latter is quite counter-intuitive, we must admit. Also, oysters are also full of vitamins such as vitamins A, B1, B2 , B3, C and D. Some also believe oysters contain aphrodisiac properties.

Oysters are also very versatile for cooking and can be prepared in many ways. In the Sydney Fish Market you can also find cooked oysters - for example oysters kilpatrick and oysters mornay.

Oysters kilpatrick contains bits of bacon mixed with worchester sauce peppered over the oyster and baked. Oyster mornay has plenty of cream and cheese in bechamel sauce which is then grilled till brown (emmm....).

If you prefer oysters raw but want some kick - why not try oysters in tomato salsa?

Just cut up the tomatoes in samll cubes, mix it with chopped garlic, olive oil and pesto and place the mixture into the oysters in the shell.....Heaven!

lozza 3/1/2003 Yup, the fishmarket has been there for years and it's always been THE place to go for locals here. I actually LIVE in the apartment block behind the Sydney fish market. Oysters are SHUCKED, not DESHELLED. 0/0
