Restaurant Review: Red Ginger
By The Editorial Team

Located in Plaza Bukit Damansara, this establishment sets itself apart by offering hawker inspired Malaysian favourites for the white collar folks based in the area. The place is bright and breezy with excellent service even during busy lunch times. By lunch times during working days, this place will usually be packed to the brim. They have also recently extended their business times to Sundays as well.

The IT factorNice ambience and service – great place to entertain.

We first came to know of this place through a recommendation. Red Ginger is apparently well known for its good food and healthy portions. In fact, you will find a newspaper cutting advertising that fact right in front of their entrance.

As mentioned, the menu is Malaysian hawker-inspired so expect to find favourites like Char Kway Teow, Curry Laksa and Ipoh Sar Hor Fun on the menu. Whilst the environment is perfect for entertaining clients, our recommendation is very much limited to that. On two occasions when we were there, we found the portions to be fairly small given the above RM8 price tag for most items on the menu. The food is so-so but could be attributable to the fact that no excess MSG was added to their fare. However, what the food lacks, the service and ambience makes up for it.

Given the crowd that it attracts, Red Ginger must surely have its charms which this writer has yet to discover. If you intend to bring your clients, remember to make reservations. Parking is bad in this area so try to park in the Southern Bank building or the open air carpark next to it.

Our final verdict however – Go if you must but don’t set your hopes too high.
