The recent launch of creme de la mer in Malaysia created quite a buzz locally. Ladies lined up in Mid-Valley Megamall trying to get their hands on a jar of the miracle cream. Women all over the world swear by its skin-rejuvenating qualities. Naturally, it is expensive - so for those of us who can't afford it, it'll probably do just to get a glimpse of the miracle cream.
The story of creme de la mer's creation is equally dramatic. According to one writer, the creator was Max Huber, a US scientist who suffered severe burns sometime in the 1950s. He built a laboratory in his own home in California and after six thousand experiments in a twelve year period, the cream of the sea was born.
Well, why would a story on cosmetic find its way in foodvenue.com? The inspiration came from a recent reading of an article which talked about creme de la mer's ingredients which read more like a recipe for an exotic dish. Sea kelp harvested from the Pacific Ocean at depths of three metres and fermented in huge fish-tank vats in vodka and lime peels! Whether the recipe we read was true or not, our curiosity were awaken. Are there any cosmetics and skin care products that look delicious enough to eat?
Hey, we did find some skin-care products on the Internet that looks good enough to eat!
We found a Seaweed Sushi Cleanser by Lush which really looks like sushi! It is made with nori seaweed, rice, lime and sage oils. According to the writeup we found, this compact cleanser was created to treat oily and acne-prone skin. There is even a "best before" date to ensure freshness and purity.
This other one we found is also quite cool. Apparently, this product was created based on the discovery by Japanese rice farmers centuries ago that those responsible for washing rice had softer, smoother, younger looking hands. (Hmmm......better go check my maid's hands!) The Rice Formula Face Wash by Fresh comes out as a powder and then foams into a creamy lather, which cleanses your skin while moisturizing.
Both products are available in the US. Anyone knows where to get these here?
