foodvenue.com ran a survey on what secretaries and office administrators really want during this Secretaries Week - and here's some of the more interesting answers:
One of the more popular answers is of course ..... increment lah. Baizura who's with a publishing company thought it would be a good idea for ".... an increment every 6 months and bonus every year!!...."
Cik Wahida who's working in Jalan Pinang wanted "...a lunch treat with flowers and chocolates in a most beautiful five star hotel in MALAYSIA!"
Hmm.... in these difficult times, ada job already very good lah.
Claris from PJ took a bit more time to think and finally suggested "...a week's all expenses-paid holiday of her choice during Secretaries' Week". We suppose Hong Kong won't be a destination of choice.
However, from the majority of our survey results, here's what we think is the most thoughtful gift you can give your secretary : A "THANK YOU" AND MEAN IT FROM THE BOTTOM OF YOUR HEART! Here's some of the more touching quotes:
Jennifer from Kelana Jaya said it is very important "to acknowledge a secretary with a word of appreciation for a job well done"
Zalina from the Institute Jantung in Jalan Tun Razak offers this script for less thoughtful bosses: "I really appreciate for what you have done all these years to make my work and this office run smoothly. Thank you."
Aileen who's working in a law firm in Damansara Heights said that "It is not necessarily by means of a gift of a material item that touch the sight of the receiver but by words of kind expression of appreciativeness, thankfulness that touch the heart of the receiver. This will be the best way to show your appreciation." We agree completely! Maybe you need to think of something interesting this year to show your appreciation.
Sean who's working in a fashion outfit in KL shares the same view but offers more practical advice: "Always by first thank-ing the staff's stomach! Then say thanks and show gratitude for everything your secretary has done no matter how insignificant/hard the request." I hope his boss is like that and he's speaking from experience!
Selva who's with Euro Deli said that bosses should "acknowledge a secretary's contribution towards the company's progress at the right occasion with a simple 'thank you'". She believes that this will do wonders for the staff's performance.
Suhana from Prudential would want her bosses to "always respect, support and understand their staffs in all ways to show their appreciation for them."
Nesam who's with the HR department in a broadcasting company has this to say "The bosses should learn trust her, to laugh with her, to encourage her.....even through the worst of times !" Wah... it nearly rhymes.
If your bosses fall short from what you wish .... take comfort in the saying: "It could be worse!"
