Are you bitten by the hypermarket bug yet? Recently the opening of Tesco in Puchong caused quite a stir with the residents in and around the Klang Valley.
The main roads in Puchong are now full of shoppers eager for shopping bargains. Indeed hypermarkets like Tesco have really given consumers a field day with lower prices and more choices. We were told that the prices for vegetables and chicken meat in Tesco is quite competitive. Our reliable sources also indicate that Carrefour, another major hypermarket chain in Malaysia, will soon fight back with lower priced items of their own. Are we in for a price war soon?
Although the main beneficiary of increasing competition are the consumers, the friendly neighbourhood sundry shop and mini market will be the hardest hit by foreign giants like Carrefour and Tesco.
